The verdant rolling hills that Kigali is spread across have been witness to a city transforming itself over the last 20 years. The scene of some of the more horrific moments during the genocide of the 1990’s, Kigali has determinedly picked itself up, dusted off and moved on. The result is one of Africa’s most exciting cities, a leading light of progress in the continent and an extremely interesting place to visit.
We’d strongly recommend taking a few days to explore Kigali in between gorilla trekking and enjoying luxury African safaris. The city is abuzz with energy and colour, home to a vibrant art scene and eclectic restaurants and cafes. The streets are unbelievably clean, the people are warm and friendly and the getting around the city is easy.
This is an optimistic city that has taken control of its own narrative and is determined to make it a positive one. Yet it’s not forgetting its past, which can be acknowledged and remembered at the Kigali Genocide Memorial. This is one of the most important places to visit in Rwanda – a place that truly puts into context the history of the country.
From this point in its past has risen the modern Rwanda, and Kigali is its spearhead. A place of progression, tech companies, creative businesses, fashion and fine dining. A place that Hekaya would love you to visit. Contact us and we’ll plan a memorable and fulfilling Kigali visit for you.
