Akagera National Park

A Big Five Safari in Rwanda

Rwanda

The first rays of the rising sun throw their rays over the sparkling waters of Lake Rwanyakazinga. A herd of buffalo drink from the water’s edge, warily eyeing the crocodile floating past. In the distance, the roar of a lion temporarily silences the birdsong, and it’s a few seconds before their chorus fills the sky again. You couldn’t imagine a more perfect destination for a luxury African safari. It surprises many people that this can be found in Rwanda which is most famous for gorilla trekking and lush mountainous rainforests. In Akagera low lying savannahs melt into wet swamplands, teeming with wildlife of all descriptions. Herds of buffalo, elephant and plains game wander freely, occasionally pursued by lions and leopards.

Akagera National Park is a genuine luxury safari destination, complete with the opportunity to see the famed ‘big five’ of African wildlife. It’s the perfect complement to a gorilla trekking experience giving a complete African adventure. Hekaya would love to show Akagera National Park to you. We are partners with Magashi camp, the only 5-star lodge in the park and the best place to enjoy this pristine sanctuary from.
