Windhoek, Namibia’s capital city in the country’s centre, is nestled amongst mountains and hills to 3 sides. It is a melting pot of European and African influences and juxtaposes the new and the old. German colonial buildings stand alongside modern high rises and traditionally dressed Herero women mingle business people in suits. Windhoek is an excellent starting point from which to explore the rest of the country with good dining and shopping options and a number of lovely hotels from which to replenish after a long flight. Some properties outside of the city centre on private reserves offer game viewing and lovely desert scenery.
