Overview

This luxurious itinerary starts off with 3 nights at Little Kulala, the finest lodge near the iconic Sossusvlei area. Sossusvlei is a white clay pan surrounded by towering rust-coloured dunes, among the highest in the world. Animals in the area are desert-adapted and include oryx, jackals, springboks and ostriches and you will take a hot air balloon ride or helicopter flight to enjoy it from another perspective.

Next you are off to the desolate but breathtakingly beautiful Skeleton Coast. The area is known as the’Land God Made in Anger’. Thousands of miles of sandy desert dotted with shipwrecks meet with the cold waters of the Atlantic and somehow an amazing array of wildlife and flora manages to survive.

Day 1-3. Little Kulala, Kulala Wilderness Reserve

You will be met at Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek) and fly to Little Kulala.

  • Little Kulala has 11 luxury climate-controlled, thatched units (including 1 family unit) inspired by its timeless desert setting.
  • Each unit has a private plunge pool and a 'star bed' on the upper floor for the ultimate romantic experience, while ceiling to floor windows give you unimpeded views.
  • The camp has a private access gate to the Namib-Naukluft National Park and Sossusvlei.
  • Here you will be able to visit the iconic red dunes of the oldest desert in the world, hop off the vehicle and walk amongst 400-year-old trees. Activities on offer are trips to Sossusvlei, nature drives, walks and eco-sensitive quad biking.
  • Enjoy an incredible balloon safari that will see you soaring above the desert scenery before enjoying a sumptuous champagne breakfast in the dunes or choose to take a helicopter flight over the dunes instead.

Day 4-6.Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp, Skeleton Coast

At a time to be advised by the camp management, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your circuit light aircraft transfer from Little Kulala to Doro Nawas Airstrip and from Doro Nawas Airstrip to Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp.

  • The dry bed of the Hoanib River supports a thin green ribbon of vegetation and the wild beaches of the Atlantic coast are within reach, with their noisy seal colonies and eerily quiet shipwreck remnants.
  • Large  and airy en-suite tents and the main area provide shady viewpoints and spacious verandahs from which to watch the desert scenery.
  • Nature drives reveal a wealth of desert-adapted wildlife. Desert-adapted lion and brown hyaena may be glimpsed in this vast but far from lifeless landscape. Game drives along the river bed gives an insight on how alive the area is.
  • Take a fascinating 4x4 trip to the coast via the wilderness and wildlife of the Hoanib River and floodplain, which include Klein Oases Spring and driving through a dune field - while the Skeleton Coast itself reveals a rocky coastline with its huge Cape fur seal colonies and shipwreck remains. Following a picnic lunch, the return flight back to camp offers a magnificent perspective of your journey from the air.

Day 7. Departure

Today you will be transferred by private road transfer from Hoanib Skeleton Coast Camp to Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek) for your onward departing flight.
