Etosha is Namibia’s most popular National Park and translates as the ‘Great White Place’ as much of the area is a shimmering salt pan. Large herds of big game make for a spectacular safari and the park’s unusual backdrop of a vast pan of a mirage-like pan makes for great photographs.
From May to October wildlife viewing is spectacular with animals gathering in large numbers around the waterholes at the salt-pans edge. You can expect to see large herds of blue wildebeest, zebra, springbok, gemsbok as well as eland and giraffe. The water holes are floodlit making for great viewing of nocturnal predators such as lions and shy black rhinos. Etosha is easy to visit and it is easy to view wildlife at the waterholes. It is a great self-drive destination and a wonderful place to safari with kids.
